But if, instead of comparing monthly figures, we were to do so as they do in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Slate<\/a>, we would realise what is happening to the Spanish economy and society.<\/p>\n<p>In the interactive chart on this \u00abwhiteboard\u00bb, you\u2019ll see how job losses are affecting the US month by month. It feels as though I\u2019m watching, in real time, the explosion of multiple nuclear warheads in North America\u2019s major cities in the latest blockbuster film <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Hollywood-style <\/span>in true style <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SCJeR0UebR8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Armageddon<\/a>. These are job losses that will take decades to recover from (even if the previous rate of growth is quickly regained) and yet are mounting by the month, leaving an ever-deepening and more intense red stain at the economic heart of the US:<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2216238\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size:130%;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Interactive chart<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>The chart is based on data from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/lau\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LAUS<\/a> (Local Area Unemployment Statistics). Let\u2019s now imagine that someone were to produce (perhaps they already have) the same map, but for Spain, using domestic unemployment figures for the same period. A trade union movement <a href=\"http:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Negacionismo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">denier<\/a> the global financial collapse and the illusory virtual wealth we have experienced, which will recklessly hamper the productivity we need to try to emerge from the economic depression. Meanwhile, it continues <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/freshfamilyoffice.blogspot.com\/2009\/02\/do-not-disturbios.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the countdown<\/a> for many, and soon for most.<\/p>\n<p>P.S.
