The film *Jurassic Park* raises several interesting points. One of these is the danger of two species \u2013 humans and dinosaurs \u2013 coexisting in the same time period. This is something that never happened naturally, yet occurs artificially in this work of fiction. This artificial coexistence between two distinct natural worlds may clash or grind at the teeth for countless and unforeseeable reasons, many of which we cannot even begin to fathom, let alone try to prevent or improve. It is, in short, an unnatural coexistence which, whilst it may prove successful, is highly likely to generate a great many complications or problems. This conflict-ridden coexistence will seek to restore the natural balance \u2013 and almost always to the detriment of the most vulnerable.<\/div>\n

<\/span>\"\"<\/a>You may be wondering what all this has to do with Family Office advisory services or with finance in general. Well, you\u2019ll understand if we talk about the coexistence of sudden wealth<\/span> with people who have not been able to generate that wealth themselves. In other words, when someone receives a fortune that they have not earned or generated themselves.<\/div>\n
\"\"<\/a>Every day we see many cases in which a family with a moderate capacity to generate wealth suddenly comes into a sum of money that it is unlikely to be able to manage properly. This sudden increase in wealth can take many different forms, unrelated to effort or merit, and none of these forms precludes the possibility of the others: Inheritances, prize draws, property rezoning and get-rich-quick schemes of dubious legality, separation agreements, the distribution of bequests whilst still alive, various speculative bubbles, etc\u2026 <\/span>However, these episodes do not usually recur, so there is unlikely to be much room for manoeuvre or second chances to learn from mistakes.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>It is obvious that the reason why many of those who come into sudden wealth squander it within a few years is none other than their own inability. If they had been capable in their own right, the wealth would probably have come to them more or less directly, because time tends to put everyone in their place. But let us make no mistake: this is by no means a criticism, as not all of us are obliged to be capable of generating more wealth than is necessary. There are even people, despite being capable, whose interests and efforts are focused on far less material things. A real lesson for everyone else in many ways.<\/span> And it should be made clear that both those who are incapable of creating abundant wealth and those who have no interest in doing so are just as worthy of respect as the rest of us (or even more so).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Let us focus on those who, despite trying to generate as much wealth as possible, are unable to earn much more than enough to support their families. If this group \u2013 let\u2019s call them the middle class (the most numerous group until this crisis) \u2013 were to come into sudden wealth in any of the ways mentioned above, they would have to contend with two contradictory realities: Wealth in the hands of those incapable of creating it<\/span>. United in time and space, just like the dinosaurs and humans we mentioned at the start of the article. A low or average capacity for wealth creation will squander that sudden fortune within a few years, with a few exceptions. Among these exceptions are those who will make the effort to educate themselves so as to manage their sudden wealth properly. Some may even succeed, but the majority will fail due to their own shortcomings or because they overestimate their abilities during this training process. Hiring good professionals is usually very beneficial, but at the same time very difficult to achieve. However, many others will not even make the effort to learn. And they will believe that if they were able to manage their lives without wealth, it will be even easier for them to do so with money. Big mistake<\/span>. The only thing that will come easily to them is squandering their fortune \u2013 whether quickly or gradually, but in either case in a sadly inexorable manner. Not only may they lose the entirety of the sudden wealth they have received, but they may also find themselves in debt and in a far more precarious situation than before. They may even end up losing the skills that originally enabled them to enjoy a more than respectable standard of living, all because of vices and a lifestyle of false affluence maintained for a few years.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The coexistence of a limited capacity to generate wealth and a sudden windfall will, in almost all cases, be an unnatural combination that will seek to restore its balance.<\/span> This rebalancing may, in exceptional cases, come about through improved training, but almost always nature will rebalance itself, leaving the protagonist at a level of wealth similar to that which they originally knew how to generate and manage. In other words, rebalancing to the detriment of the most vulnerable party: Wealth. Very little of it, nothing at all, or even debts will remain after this natural rebalancing.
