{"id":22814,"date":"2008-02-19T14:30:00","date_gmt":"2008-02-19T14:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/clusterfamilyoffice.com\/blog\/?p=539"},"modified":"2008-02-19T14:30:00","modified_gmt":"2008-02-19T14:30:00","slug":"el-vendedor-de-tiempo-vs-el-vendedor-de-creditos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/clusterfamilyoffice.com\/en\/el-vendedor-de-tiempo-vs-el-vendedor-de-creditos\/","title":{"rendered":"The Time Seller vs. the Credit Seller."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rankia.com\/blog\/familyoffice\/uploaded_images\/trias-de-bes-775702.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 122px; height: 163px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rankia.com\/blog\/familyoffice\/uploaded_images\/trias-de-bes-775698.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>For those who haven\u2019t read it yet, I\u2019d recommend this enjoyable, short and entertaining little book, which makes us reflect on the sustainability of our economic system: <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.agapea.com\/VENDEDOR-DE-TIEMPO-EL-n221546i.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Time Seller<\/a>, by Fernando Trias De Bes.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">I also think this video, entitled <a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/video.google.com\/videoplay?docid=-9050474362583451279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Money as Debt<\/a> (Translated into <a href=\"http:\/\/es.youtube.com\/watch?v=wkdtJoZ4kFQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spanish here<\/a> (though the quality is poor), which my friend and colleague recommended to me <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogger.com\/profile\/05317441451944165513\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Counsellor<\/a>. Of all the videos and documents that recount the origins of money and its <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">perverse<\/span> the effects caused by the reckless building of financial houses of cards; I find this particularly clear in its first half.<\/p>\n<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rankia.com\/blog\/familyoffice\/uploaded_images\/moneyasdebtfullcovergv0-771726.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 349px; height: 232px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rankia.com\/blog\/familyoffice\/uploaded_images\/moneyasdebtfullcovergv0-771066.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>It\u2019s a 47-minute video, and I think that with those first 22 or 24 minutes, plus reading the book, we could spark a very interesting debate. Perhaps many of you are already familiar with it, or have seen other videos and animations on similar topics that have taken the internet by storm in recent months. Although the second half of this one veers into \u00abconspiracy theories\u00bb that I do not share at all, I think watching it will be interesting for those who haven\u2019t seen it yet. <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">It is important to bear in mind that both the book and the video were conceived before the current credit crisis.<\/span> To be precise, the book was written over three years ago and this video is dated February 2007.<\/p>\n<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rankia.com\/blog\/familyoffice\/uploaded_images\/moneytrap4-784936.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 315px; height: 210px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rankia.com\/blog\/familyoffice\/uploaded_images\/moneytrap4-784933.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>In contrast to the video, I\u2019ll quote just a couple of sentences from the book:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhen Rosa Reg\u00e1s won the Planeta Prize, I was driving my car and heard the award ceremony live on the radio. Rosa Reg\u00e1s said: \u201dThank you for this prize. \u2018With this money, I\u2019ll be able to buy something that isn\u2019t for sale: time.\u2019 After hearing that sentence, I began to imagine what would happen if, in a society like the Western one, time could be bought. The result is this book.\u201d Fernando Trias de Bes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rankia.com\/blog\/familyoffice\/uploaded_images\/Xavier_Zebra-755280.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 121px; height: 149px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rankia.com\/blog\/familyoffice\/uploaded_images\/Xavier_Zebra-754918.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Xavier_Sala_i_Mart%C3%ADn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xavier Sala-i-Mart\u00edn<\/a>, for which, as you know, I have a particular fondness, had this to say about this novel: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt is an extraordinary example of what happens to an economy when the free operation of the mechanisms that balance markets is not ensured, an example of the disaster that looms when prices are not allowed to move freely, when people are forced to pay for things that should be free, or when unnecessary taxes are imposed on society.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One of the first questions I\u2019d like to raise \u2013 of the many that may arise \u2013 is this: to what extent are we purging these excesses through the current credit crisis? I\u2019d like to compare your views and your outlook on the current and future situation. I hope that both the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">reading<\/span> such as the <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">video<\/span> if this is of interest to you, and above all <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">I hope we can discuss them in your comments<\/span>. There is no doubt that this is the most significant issue in today\u2019s financial world.
