The significance of losing one\u2019s job goes beyond the obvious initial shock caused by the loss of purchasing power. Experts in occupational psychology state that the status of unemployment, into which so many skilled workers have been forced, is causing a worrying rise in cases of depression. However, you must not lose your nerve or become discouraged, as it is precisely this discouragement that is the jobseeker\u2019s worst enemy. Blindly sending out CVs to companies that often do not operate in the relevant sectors will result in repeated rejections and the consequent discouragement and low self-esteem, which are detrimental to one\u2019s goals and health.But it is not only losing a job that can lead to demoralisation: failing to find one in the first place can too. Studies carried out using Prof. David Goldberg\u2019s GHQ techniques have confirmed that young unemployed people are more prone to mild mental health issues than those in employment. And it is precisely the process of securing a job that has become a handicap for some, and a blessing for many. Students from all degree programmes are facing difficulties in finding jobs that lead to a stable and successful career, from teachers to lawyers.<\/em><\/p>\n In the 21st century, the job market is dominated by the internet and Web 2.0, whose social media networks account for a large proportion of job vacancies and applications (approximately 80%). Thanks to these platforms, many users are able to apply for roles they would otherwise never have discovered. However, particularly for the long-term unemployed or those with little technical expertise, the internet can present an obstacle that causes them to give up. To prevent this, user interfaces have been optimised, making them more intuitive.<\/em><\/p>\n To find a job online, we basically have a choice between two options: searching on social media or on job portals. Among the former, the LinkedIn website is one of the most prominent. Professional contacts of all kinds are made around the clock on this network, whose success has even reached Wall Street. Infojobs is not far behind, being one of the longest-established of the traditional job portals. Others are specialised, such as Ticjob, which is very useful for IT professionals. It is precisely for these and other professionals involved in digital design that solutions such as digital portfolios are being implemented: evidence of one\u2019s skills demonstrated through visual or audio material.<\/em> Whilst the search is complicated, the selection process is no walk in the park: SEPE officials and staff at temporary employment agencies are forced to set aside dozens of CVs and impressive academic records. These days, companies are shying away from taking risks and are keen to hire experienced staff who can \u2018get the job done\u2019 and work both independently and collaboratively.
